Drilling a residential or commercial water well
While there are numerous residential water well drilling and commercial water well drilling methods, the most common is by rotary drill. Once the drill reaches ground water, casing is put in the borehole to stop it from collapsing in on itself. This also stops surface water from seeping into the well. Adapters and pumps

Once the residential water well drilling or commercial water well drilling is complete and the casing installed, a submersible pump is placed in the well. In the Northeast, a pitless adapter is utilized to redirect water from the well into the home, all the while keeping the water lines below the frost level. Pitless adapters are two- piece brass units that have one half installed into the side of the well casing below frost level, and the other half connected to the pipe coming up from the pump. They make a 90-degree elbow through the side of the well casing to discharge the water line under ground.
